The irrigation aspiration probe is a small device that is used to remove the vitreous gel from the eye. It has a long, thin shaft with a needle at its end. The probe is inserted into the eye through the cornea and then slowly pushed in until it reaches the vitreous gel. The needle then pierces through the gel and removes it by sucking out liquid.

This device can be used to treat several eye conditions such as posterior vitreous detachment, retinal tears, and diabetic retinopathy.

Types of an aspiration cannula

There are many different types of irrigation probes that are available on the market today. There are some probes that are made specifically for particular purposes, while others can be used in a variety of ways. Some probes have a long thin tube with a small tip at the end which is designed to go into the eye and remove protein buildup or other fluids that may accumulate there. Other probes look like small spoons and have larger tips which allow them to be used more like a syringe when they are inserted into the eye.

There are two types of irrigation probes:

- The first type is an endonasal probe, which is inserted through one nostril and gently guided into the nasal cavity. It can then be used to irrigate the eye.

- The second type is a nasolacrimal probe, which is inserted through one nostril into the nasolacrimal canal, and then advanced into the lacrimal sac where it can be used to irrigate the eye.
